December 2015!!!!

The Month of December has three films to review, the first being "Krampus" Starring Adam Scott, Toni Collette and David Koechner.

Plot

"A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a Christmas demon to his family home".

My Thoughts

When you watch as many movies as I do a year, every once in a while a movie comes along that totally surprises you and is completely different than what you thought it was going to be about. Going into this Movie, I was pretty sure that it was going to be a watered down PG-13 horror film that follows most of the stigmas of PG-13 horror films (blood splatters on the walls, no actual gore/violence shown on screen). I can say that after watching the film that it was nothing like what I thought it was going to be like. First off I have to say that I should have known better, I say this because the director of this film (Michael Dougherty) directed one of my favorite horror films of the last couple of years "Trick 'r Treat" knowing how excellent that film was I should have suspected this film would be of the same caliber. What really made this movie for me was the atmosphere, once Krampus arrived on the scene (about 35 minutes in) that is where the film really picks up. the atmosphere of the film from that point on is a snowy, dark, cold somewhat menacing place, the entire town surrounding the cast of characters we are introduced is deserted and it really lent to the whole feeling of the film, I have to give kudos to the set design team they did a great job in that aspect as the setting for this film was excellent. the cast for this film was basically made up of unknowns (bar Adam Scott and Toni Collette) but that is not a bad thing in any way, the cast as a whole did a very good job as a family meeting up for the holidays who is thrust into this situation, what really surprised me with this film was the comedy aspect of it, from the get-go the film starts with Christmas shopping gone bad (felt like a satirical look at Black Friday) and from then on the film never took itself to serious and there was always the occasional joke here and there to diffuse any tension the film built up along the way, which I enjoyed. The design of Krampus and his minions was excellent as well, I didn't expect to see what I  saw on the screen and was caught off guard by the designs of everything in the film. The film didn't do everything right though, I felt the ending for me was very open ended and could have been a little more direct in what it was trying to convey to the audience, and this was disappointing for me, the ending if not done correctly can ruin a film that has done everything right to that point. The film did fall into some of the PG-13 pitfalls, there are some scenes that I felt some violence/Gore could have been shown but instead the audience only gets to either hear some things happening or get a far away shot of something happening, which was sad to see as it took away from scenes that could have been much better. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 66% saying "Krampus is gory good fun for fans of non-traditional holiday horror with a fondness for Joe Dante's B- movie classics, even if it doesn't have quite the savage bite its concept calls for". I agree overall with this, as I mentioned earlier if this film was rated R those scenes that I felt where held back could have really been done much better and added to the film. Overall this was a solid film that surprised me in a few ways but didn't in other, throw in a weak ending in my opinion and this potentially very good film, left me feeling that it was decent instead.

Rating

Decent Film, had potential to be very good but a weak ending and a PG-13 rating hold it back. 7.0/10!!!

The next film up for review is "Point Break" Starring  Edgar Ramirez, Luke Bracey and Ray Winstone.

Plot

"A young FBI agent infiltrates an extraordinary team of extreme sports athletes he suspects of masterminding a string of unprecedented, sophisticated corporate heists. "Point Break" is inspired by the classic 1991 hit".

My Thought's

I waffled on whether or not to see this film all year, up to the day I saw this film I still wasn't sure if I wanted to see it, I decided that I had nothing better to do and figured this would kill some time and hopefully keep me entertained, after seeing the film I wished I could have the $8.50 and the 1 hour and 53 minutes of my life I cannot get back, this was honestly one of the worst films I have seen this year and it may end up being the worst film I have seen this year when I release my winner/losers for the year. honestly the only quality of this movie that I enjoyed where the extreme sports scenes they were well done and had an epic feel to them, other than that the film was terrible, the acting was sub par by the entire cast, the plot was non engaging and I actually caught myself falling asleep while viewing this movie. I don't really want to talk about this film anymore it is not worth seeing in any circumstances, I know people who may have been fans of the original 1991 film and may want to see this to compare/contrast the two films, I would strongly suggest to not do that, this film is all around terrible and save your time and money and see something else. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 4% and no one has given an official review on the site (I doubt they ever will). there is nothing else to say other than this film was a terrible cash grab by some studio exec to try and rope in viewers who have good memories of the original film, I say this should have been left in 1991 and not remade.

Rating

Terrible film all around bad other than the extreme sports scenes skip it never watch!! 4.5/10!!!

The Last movie to review for the year is "The HatefuL Eight" Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Plot

"In the dead of a Wyoming winter, a bounty hunter and his prisoner find shelter in a cabin currently inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters.

My Thoughts

I am a pretty Big Tarantino fan and was looking forward to seeing this film, now having seen it I can say it was classic Tarantino and it was very well done, this will go down as one of my favorite films from 2015. starting with the cast which was well assembled, all of the cast worked especially well together but the two that stood out for me were Samuel L. Jackson (Major Marquis Warren) and Walton Goggins (Chris Mannix) the two of the stole the show whenever their characters were on screen and the interplay between the two was excellent I have to say Samuel L. Jackson was the overall star of this film he was hilarious and some of the imagery that is used in the film to depict some of the situations that his character explains throughout the film was brilliant., the rest of the cast was fantastic as well I also enjoyed Jennifer Jason Leigh in her portrayal of the character Daisy Domergue, she really nailed the part and she had some very snappy lines that caused me to chuckle more than a few times, I was also very happy to see Tim Roth in this film, he is excellent in most of the films I have seen him in and he was no different in this film, really underrated actor in my opinion. The setting of this film is a few years after the civil war and with how the film played out it was a excellent choice, the wardrobes of all of the characters felt really authentic and I applaud the crew who worked on the outfits. What really made this feel like a classic Tarentino film was the over the top dialogue and violence, this film was bloody  good fun and I emphasize the word "Bloody" this film did not hold back at all and I loved it, this was probably the most bloody Tarantino film I have seen since Kill Bill vol.1. The movie flowed very well which was crucial considering this film is 2 hours and 47 minutes a film that long can get boring real quick if it does a bad job of keeping the viewer engaged, that was not the case with this film the plot was very well done and I was engaged throughout the entire duration of the film.there was not much I found wrong with this film, before I watched the movie the length of it was a concern , But as I mentioned earlier that was not a problem at all, some problems I could see for general viewers would be the Violence in the film there is a lot of blood and gore, if you are someone who does not like to see a lot of that kind of stuff I would suggest not viewing this film, another issue I could see for some viewers would be the language used being that this film is set in the 19th century there is a lot of racial slurs used that may rub some people the wrong way, again if this is something that may bother you I suggest skipping this movie. My only real gripe with this movie which honestly is minor would be the a certain actor making a special appearance as the brother to Jennifer Jason Leigh's character, this is nothing against the movie itself, I just dislike the actor who played the role. Overall this was a very good movie and was classic Tarantino through and through from the way the movie was setup as chapters to the violence, language and crudeness of it. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 76% saying " The Hateful Eight offers another well-aimed round from Quentin Tarantino's signature blend of action, humor, and over-the-top violence -- all while demonstrating an even stronger grip on his filmmaking craft". I agree with everythign besides the score I would rate the film higher than that.

Rating

Very good Film, Classic Tarantino Recommend to fans of his movies or someone who doesn't mind an almost 3 hour film full of Violence,Foul language and twists. 8.5/10!!!!

November 2015!!!!

The Month Of November brings two films to review, the first being "The Night Before" Starring Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Plot

"On Christmas eve, three lifelong friends, two of whom are Jewish, spend the night in New York City looking for the Holy Grail of Christmas parties".

My Thoughts

When it comes to reviewing comedy movies, I always ask my self this question "was it funny", after all that is why people watch comedy movies to be entertained and have a good laugh, after watching this movie for me it was not very funny at all, there were very few scenes that I found were amusing, which was a disappointment, the main cast I thought would work well together but I found the movie disjointed and didn't really flow together at all, the jokes fell flat mostly and for a comedy film to not be funny just makes fora boring experience which this film was. I will say I am not a huge Seth Rogen fan ("This is the end" is one of the best comedies I have seen in the last 5 years though) and I was expecting him to deliver some entertaining things but it just never came off right, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt had some good interplay with each other which at times was kind of funny, but most of the scenes with all three characters just didn't work for me. Rotten Tomatoes  surprisingly does not have a rating for this film yet, which I have never seen before, I will save Rotten Tomaotes the trouble do not see this film, Overall the film was jsut not funny for me, the jokes didnt come off as funny, it seemed like the actors where trying to hard (especially Seth Rogen) thrown in some reilgous undertones that felt like they where forced into the film to make a subliminal message and you havea boring movie, I wanted to like the Movie, the cast had a lot of good names in it had some good cameos as well but it just didn't work.

Rating

Not Funny. 6.0/10!!!!

The Next Film up for review is "Creed" Starring Sylvester Stallone,. Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson.

Plot

"The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo".

My Thoughts

The "Rocky" franchise is in my opinion one of the "Legendary" movie franchises, and while a few installments of the films have been in my opinion subpar (Rocky III and Rocky V come to mind) but overall the films in the franchise have been in range from solid to very good. When I first heard about this film I was somewhat interested but not ecstatic to see the film, I was a fan of Apollo Creed in the films but I did find his character very arrogant and at times Very unlikable, so a film about his illegitimate son had me a little Leery as I hoped he would not be a carbon copy of his father. After seeing this film I am going to say something I have not said much this year this was a "Great Film". The acting was very good Sylvester Stallone was excellent in his role as the venerable Rocky Balboa now in his late years and trying to push on with his life, even though all of his friends, family have passed on.  Michael B. Jordan was also very good in his role as Adonis Creed, the forgotten son Apollo Creed never knew he had, he was really believable as a boxer in this film he played the role very well, what I really liked about his character was the evolution from the start of the film to the end he changed and began to embrace his father's legacy unlike in the beginning when he wanted nothing to so with him and even saw the name "Creed" as a hindrance in his life, as the film went on his character realized never forget where you came from. what was really nice to see in the film was the connection between Rocky and Adonis to see the relationship with them grow from two strangers just meeting to Trainer and Boxer to eventually becoming family it was such a journey to see unfold on the screen and beautiful to see. The boxing scenes in this film were filmed really well, I really liked the camera angle they used for the boxing matches it really puts the viewer close to the action and it felt "real". The film was not perfect there were a few minor problems I had with the film overall, first the Romance between Adonis (Jordan) and Bianca (Tessa Thompson) felt somewhat forced to me, and this is a problem that I have with a lot of films, it seems to me, that Producers and Screen Writers like to put in a relationship in films that do not really need it just to have one in the film. This movie for me would have been fine with no romance between the two characters, but as I mentioned earlier it is only a minor gripe nothing huge, another minor problem I had with the film was its running time the film was 2 hours and 13 minutes, I felt after looking back on the film that it could have been around 1 hour and 45 minutes and the same result would have been met. Lastly the soundtrack was a little to "Meek Milly" (pardon the pun) the soundtrack was Hip-Hop Heavy which is fine but I felt music by "Meek Mill" was overused otherwise I had no problems with the soundtrack. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 92% saying "Creed brings the Rocky franchise off the mat for a surprisingly effective seventh round that extends the boxer's saga in interesting new directions while staying true to its classic predecessors' roots". I agree with this the film really revitalized the franchise overall and the ending leaves plenty of chances for sequels, and if they are anything like this film I really look forward to them.

Rating

Great Film Highly Recommend it !! 8.5/10!!!

October 2015!!!

The Month Of October brings with it three films to review the first being "The Martian" starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig.

Plot

"During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive"

My Thoughts

A lot of people I talked to about this film before it came out said that they felt it was very similar to "Interstellar" I can say after watching this film that it is not really similar to "Interstellar": at all, that is not a bad thing by any means, this was one of the best films I have seen this year. First off the acting was superb, Matt Damon was excellent as an astronaut who is left behind on a alien planet with no one to help him and no one able to reach him for years, this was for me probably my favorite role played by Matt Damon to date, the different situations he had to be put in and how he reacted played very well on the screen, and what really surprised me was the way his character was able to make light of his situation and make it believable to the viewer which for me he did very well, The rest of the was also excellent and of the highest quality, I will make special mention of the acting job done by Chiwetel Ejiofor he was also really excellent in this film and I enjoyed every scene he ad in the film. The special effects in this film where for the most part of the highest quality, I really enjoyed the Mars scenes the way the production crew was able to re-create the red planet was masterfully done and it really felt like I was actually watching a film made on Mars, I also want to point out that the space ship scenes with the crew where amazing as well the zero gravity scenes where breathtaking and absolutely beautiful, the one gripe I had with the CG had to do with showing Matt Damon's body after extreme food rationing later in the film, other than that I had no other complaints. Honestly there was not much about this film that I did not like, it was overall an awesome film that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Rotten Tomatoes  gave this film 93% saying "Smart, thrilling, and surprisingly funny, The Martian offers a faithful adaptation of the bestselling book that brings out the best in leading man Matt Damon and director Ridley Scott". this was a very good film and I recommend this to anyone who wants to see a space epic on par with :"Interstellar" in my opinion.

Rating

Very good film one of the best I have seen this year, I recommend to everyone 8.7/10!!!!

The next movie for the month of October is "Crimson Peak" Starring Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

Plot

"In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds...and remembers".

My Thoughts

I will be the first to say that "Romance" films are not at the top of my movie genre type, not that I do not like them but usually they are boring and cliched filled and not entertaining for me personally. When I first saw the trailer for this film, I was a bit skeptical about how interesting this film would be, that was until I  saw the second trailer for this film, it made the film come across as a good mix between romance/Horror, with horror films being one of my favorite genres I gave this a try. After viewing the Film I can say that this was actually a very solid film. first off the Acting was top notch by the main cast Mia Wasikowska was excellent as Edith, I have seen her in a few films through the years (my favorite being "Stoker") and I can say this was her best performance for me so far, she played the role very well and was very convincing, I will add in every movie I have seen with her she gives off a very "Innocent and Naive" vibe in whatever character she plays and that went really well with the tone/setting of this film . Tom Hiddleston (who I had previously only seen in the Thor films and Avengers) was very  convincing in his role of Thomas Sharpe the outsider who shows up out of nowhere and has an aura of "Mysteriousness"  and "Intrigue" about him that played perfectly for the character who  as the viewer you never quite trust and feel he has an ulterior motive, he and Mia Wasikowska's character's had very good chemistry and it made for an engaging relationship on screen, I look forward to seeing More of Mr.Hiddleston in other roles besides "Loki" in any upcoming Marvel films. While Hiddleston and Wasikowska both did very good jobs in there roles, the star of this film in terms of acting was Jessica Chastain in her role as Lucille Sharp, Thomas Sharpe's older sister, I have been a big fan of Jessica Chastain for a few years now and this performance ranks up their as one of the  best I have seen from her, the coldness and lack of emotion she showed throughout the film was uneasy and sometimes hard to see unfold on the screen, and for me that is what a villain is supposed to be, not likable not upbeat, not positive. Cold, calculated and cunning is what a villain is supposed to be and Jessica Chastain delivered that in spades in this role, she was awesome. for any Sons of Anarchy fans Charlie Hunham rounded out the main cast as Alan McMichael, I have only seen him in one other film (Coincidentally another Guillermo Del Toro film "Pacific Rim") and I would say his performance in this film was good as well and did a solid job. Now onto what really caught my eye with this film was the visual effects, once the films setting switches over to "Allerdale Hall" the film for me was a feast for the eyes, it was beautiful, some of the color contrast was just beautiful, I really liked the whole setup of the mansion, it really felt like it had a mind of its own, with all the creaking and groaning that was going on throughout the entire film it really set the mood for what was going to happen to Edith (Mia Wasikowska) for the rest of the film, I have to congratulate the visual effects team they did an awesome job. The film was not perfect however, as I mentioned before this film at its core is romance film and there are parts of the film that really slow down and explore that side of the film and for me got a little boring, I know it comes with the territory  and I accepted it but for me it was a little negative, going hand in hand with the romance side of the film, I will also add that the film starts off slightly slow and takes a little time to get going.
Rotten Tomatoes  gave the film a 69% saying " Crimson Peak offers an engaging -- albeit somewhat slight -- diversion driven by a delightfully creepy atmosphere and director Guillermo del Toro's brilliant knack for unforgettable visuals". I agree that the Visuals were brilliant and the atmosphere of the house really sets the mood for the plot, overall this was a  solid film and I recommend to see at least once, is it a masterpiece or one of the best films I have seen in the last couple years No and No, but it was enjoyable, if you are in the mood to see a Romance film with some horror elements and creepiness to it with very good-acting I recommend to see this.

Rating

Solid Film, Good acting, awesome visuals and perfectly placed atmosphere elements . 7.8/10!!!!

The Next film up for review is "The Last Witch Hunter"  Starring Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie and Elijah Wood.

Plot

"The last witch hunter is all that stands between humanity and the combined forces of the most horrifying witches in history".

My Thoughts

When I first saw the trailer and read info on this movie, the first thought that came to mind was "I know What I am getting here" what I mean by that is that, I knew what I was getting myself into here before even seeing the film. Every year there are movies like this that come out, and I usually see them but always temper my expectations and know what to expect. for example last year I would have put "I,Frankenstein" and "Dracula Untold" into this category its a genre for me, that Genre is B-Movie Supernatural Film, as I mentioned earlier nothing against these types of films just do not expect much. Unlike most people I prefer to see Vin Diesel in acting roles other than the "Fast and Furious" films I am a big fan his "Riddick" films so when I saw that he was doing this film I knew I would give it a hot. Now having seen the film I can say that the film met my expectations noting more nothing less. the acting in this film was average, no great performances here, Vin Diesel did a serviceable job in the lead role and I had no complaints here, I will say that it was really nice to see Elijah Wood on the big screen again felt like I haven't seen him in a film since "The Lord Of The Rings" Trilogy and lastly I will say that Rose Leslie was a joy to see on screen and I enjoyed her scenes the most (has nothing to do with my bias for redheads). The special effects in this film where hit or miss, at some points they looked good and at other points I thought I was watching a Syfy channel film. The Film was somewhat enjoyable and kept me engaged throughout the 1 hour and 50 minute run time. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 14% saying "Grim, plodding, and an overall ill fit for Vin Diesel's particular charms, The Last Witch Hunter will bore and/or confuse all but the least demanding action-fantasy fans". I did not feel the film was boring overall, I knew what I was getting into and adjusted my expectations accordingly and what I saw was mostly what I expected from a Movie of this caliber. Overall this film was exactly what I thought it would be, an action/adventure film with so-so special effects, average acting and that is what it was, for me the best part of this film was to see Elijah Wood acting again, if you are a Vin Diesel fan or  a fan of Action/Adventure films I  would suggest to see this once if not I would say pass on this film, as most likely you will not enjoy it  and want your money back.

Rating

Met my expectations, was what I expected. 6.7/10!!!!

September 2015!!!

The Month of September has only one film to review that film is "The Visit" Starring Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould and Kathryn Hahn.

Plot

"A single mother finds that things in her family's life go very wrong after her two young children visit their grandparents".

My Thoughts

I have seen a my fair share of .Night Shyamalan movies and for the most part, I didn't enjoy many of them (especially the last airbender). When I first saw the trailer for this film I wasn't sure what to think, Now after seeing the film I can say that it was worth a watch and I can say it was decent. The cast of the film is relativity unknown ( Kathryn Hahn was the only cast member I recognized). for me having an unknown cast is not a bad thing, I look at it like this an unknown actor usually will try even p to make an impression on the viewer as they want to be noticed. The acting overall was passable the child actors (Ed Oxenbould and Olivia DeJonge) did a really god job portraying two young kids who are visiting there grandparents fore the first time in there lives and adjusting to meeting them and staying with them for two weeks, I felt that the way these two actors portrayed both roles was very believable considering the trying situations they are put in in the film. The plot of this film was paced well and flowed well together for a rather fast paced movie that I enjoyed. A hallmark for M.Night Shyamalan movies is a twist that throws the viewer for a loop and this film was no different it had a twist that I didn't see coming but once it happened It made sense and kept the plot believable. My biggest gripe with this film was that it did have its moments where what was happening on screen did not make any sense to me as a viewer, some of the scenes in the film felt like time filler and a waste of screen time, for a film that was 100 minutes long the movie did feel a tad big long for how the movie played out it could have been shorter and achieved the same effect. Rotten Tomatoes  gave this film a 61% saying "The Visit provides horror fans with a satisfying blend of thrills and laughs -- and also signals a welcome return to form for writer-director M. Night Shyamalan". I agree that this was a much better film from M.Night Shyamalan in the past 10 years for me, and as I mentioned earlier this film was decent and I would recommend to watch at least once, nothing great but decent.

Rating

Best Film I have seen from M.Night Shyamalan in recent memory, worth watching at least once. 6.9/10!!!!

August 2015!!!!

The Month of August brings with it 5 films to review, the first being "Fantastic 4" Starring. Micheal B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Miles Teller.

Plot

"Four young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy".

My Thoughts

I am sure most people remember the first two "Fantastic 4" films and how forgettable both films where, When this reboot of the series was first introduced I was excited as I saw it as an opportunity for the past films to be made correctly and forgotten and to be led by the new film for the future foray in to the marvel movie universe. After seeing this Film I can say without a doubt that this was the worst film I have seen this year and one of the worse films I have seen in the last few years, I honestly do not really want to spend much time talking about this film, All I want to really say is that this films plot made no sense whatsoever, it was really disjointed and did not flow together and at the end left me confused and wanting more, the acting by the entire  cast was horrible and made decent/good actors (Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara) look really average and I could not believe some of the acting I was watching it was really terrible and the worst performance by a cast I have seen this year hands down. The special effects in this film for the budget (120 million) where not of the level I would expect from a marvel film. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 9% saying "Dull and downbeat, this Fantastic Four proves a woefully misguided attempt to translate a classic comic series without the humor, joy, or colorful thrills that made it great". I agree with everything that was said here, this film did the impossible it made the previous two fantastic 4 films seems watchable which at the time of their release I never thought I would say again is a remake to the franchise was made, this film literally did nothing right it could not even entertain there was barely any action scenes and the action that was there was poorly done). I do not say this normally but this film is not worth anyone time to watch and I would tell anyone even a huge marvel fan to skip this unless they want to waste an hour and 48 minutes of their time that they will not be able to get back. Terrible film and hugely disappointing.

My Thoughts

Terrible Film, nothing good about it at all, waste of time do not see. 5.0/10!!!!!

The next film to review is "The Gift" starring Joel Edgerton, Rebecca Hall and Jason Bateman.

Plot

"A young married couple's lives are thrown into a harrowing tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband's past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years."

My Thoughts

for the most part, I am very opened minded and willing to give many films a chance, Some films may not have a great trailer or a cast that is well known and that can put many moviegoers off and ultimately will not see the film which could potentially be a good one. I am really glad that I took a chance on this film, it was one of the best films I have seen this year so far and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see a good suspense/Thriller. First off the acting was superb by all of the main cast lead by Joel Edgerton (who also wrote the script and directed the film) he was excellent as "Gordo" the seeming friendly neighbor who was welcoming in new couple (Rebecca Hall, Jason Bateman) into the neighborhood. all three of the main cast was excellent and some of the best acting I have seen this year easily, I really enjoyed Rebecca Hall in her portrayal as Robyn the wife who is dealing with a personal loss that eats away at her everyday. Jason Bateman who I had previously only seen in comedies was excellent as Simon the Husband who is trying his best to provide for his family and will do whatever it takes to reach new heights in his company. What I really liked about this film was the plot it played out so well, there where a lot of tense moments that will have you at the edge of your seat waiting to see how it plays out on the big screen, also what I really enjoyed about this film was the curve balls that it threw at you, the main premise behind this film is that there is something from Simon (Jason Bateman) past that comes to light and the way that it played out over the course of the film was really well done. The pacing of the film was very good as well from beginning to end the film kept me interested and engaged in what was going one. There was not much that I did not like about the film, I will say that the ending for me was a little weak and could have been a little more direct, I felt the ending wasn't as powerful as the rest of the film, But I will say that was my only complaint about the film. This was a very good Film and as I said earlier easily one of the best films I have seen this year, it was well acted, had a great plot, had a good amount of intense moments and had plenty of twists to keep the viewer guessing on what would happen. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 93% saying "The Gift is wickedly smart and playfully subversive, challenging the audience's expectations while leaving them leaning on the edges of their seats" I agree with everything that was said, I highly recommend this film for anyone who wants to see a good thriller/suspense film that will keep you engaged the entire film. Overall this was a great film and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to see a thriller/suspense film or a good film in general to see, I applaud Joel Edgerton for such a great job Directing/Writing and starring in this film.

Rating

Awesome film, one of the best I have seen this year, Great acting,Great plot 8.5/10!!!!

The Next film up for review is Hitman:Agent 47 starring Rupert Friend, Zachary Quinto and Hannah ware.

Plot

"An assassin teams up with a woman to help her find her father and uncover the mysteries of her ancestry".

My Thoughts

I can say that I never played any of the "Hitman" video games, But I did see the first "Hitman" Film from a few years ago, and I thought that film was decent for what it was. It lacked quality acting, but did have good action and was entertaining for the most part. After seeing this film I would say the same for this film,. from what I could find out this film was apparently closer to the source material (the video Games) than the first film was. The plot was okay and played out alright on screen, I will say that the film  for me started off sort of s low and tried to establish slight backgrounds for some of the main characters, But I felt the film did not do a great job at that and overall I felt nothing for the characters. The acting was okay nothing great but not the worst I have seen this year, I will say that Rupert Friend (Agent 47) his performance was  for me inferior to Timothy Olyphant from the original film, the other main character in this film was "Agent 90" played by Hannah Ware, she was another relative unknown who I had not seen act before and after this performance I am not in a rush to see her act in anything anytime soon, she want  terrible but her performance did nothing for me overall. The only quality of this film that I did enjoy was the cars used in the film, there where a lot of high end euro cars used in the  film and they were really nice to look at, the char chase scenes were also done nicely and entertaining, the fighting scenes on the other hand were a little bland for me and felt over the top just a tad (the characters did way to many sliding 50 feet and shooting the entire time and killing everyone in the process without taking a scratch). Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 9% saying "Hitman: Agent 47 fails to clear the low bar set by its predecessor, forsaking thrilling action in favor of a sleekly hollow mélange of dull violence and product placement",  I agree overall as I mentioned earlier the first film was nothing special, but this film for me was a worse than the original film in my opinion if I had to chose one or the other. This film for me its not a film I would say anyone would have to see unless they are a huge fan of the series and will catch some of the references made throughout, otherwise I say skip this film unless you want to see a sub par action film with sub par acting, subpar fight scenes and the really only redeeming quality is the cars used and the car chases.

My Thoughts

The original "Sinister" For me was one of the best Horror films I have seen in the last 10 years, it had great atmosphere, very good acting and overall was very refreshing to see, to top it off I really liked the plot as well. I eagerly anticipated the second installment into the series, I will say that since the announcement of a second installment into the franchise I have been a little hesitant about the film, that is due to the fact that the first film was so good that I felt any other entries into the franchise can only be worse and this has been proven through the years with sequels to every successful films. After seeing the film my fears came to reality and a really bad way. "Sinister 2" is by far the worst film I have seen this year and one of the worst films I have reviewed in the last 4-5 years. Honestly I would rather have had them not even attempt to make a second film in the franchise, just left it at "Sinister" and forgot about the series. I do not know where to begin with this film it was horrible all around from the horrible acting, tho the horrible plot everything about this film was terrible. The film vague mentions characters from the first film to keep a little connection between the films, but it’s not a huge deal of someone where to not have seen the first film if watching this one. Honestly I am not going to waste the time it will take to type a in depth review om this film as it does not deserved it one bit. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 12% saying " Sinister 2 has a few ingredients that will be familiar to fans of the original unfortunately, in this slapdash second installment, none of them are scary anymore". I agree this film had great source material to work off of, but it butchered everything that was good about the first film and it made this film un watchable really, I cannot suggest to anyone to watch this film skip it, if anything watch the first film to see how a good film is done and then if you want to laugh watch this one to how bad it has gotten.
