The Month Of November brings two films to review, the first being "The Night Before" Starring Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Plot
"On Christmas eve, three lifelong friends, two of whom are Jewish, spend
the night in New York City looking for the Holy Grail of Christmas
parties".
My Thoughts
When it comes to reviewing comedy movies, I always ask my self this question "was it funny", after all that is why people watch comedy movies to be entertained and have a good laugh, after watching this movie for me it was not very funny at all, there were very few scenes that I found were amusing, which was a disappointment, the main cast I thought would work well together but I found the movie disjointed and didn't really flow together at all, the jokes fell flat mostly and for a comedy film to not be funny just makes fora boring experience which this film was. I will say I am not a huge Seth Rogen fan ("This is the end" is one
of the best comedies I have seen in the last 5 years though) and I was expecting him to deliver some entertaining things but it just never came off right, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt had some good interplay with each other which at times was kind of funny, but most of the scenes with all three characters just didn't work for me. Rotten Tomatoes surprisingly does not have a rating for this film yet, which I have never seen before, I will save Rotten Tomaotes the trouble do not see this film, Overall the film was jsut not funny for me, the jokes didnt come off as funny, it seemed like the actors where trying to hard (especially Seth Rogen) thrown in some reilgous undertones that felt like they where forced into the film to make a subliminal message and you havea boring movie, I wanted to like the Movie, the cast had a lot of good names in it had some good cameos as well but it just didn't work.
Rating
Not Funny. 6.0/10!!!!
The Next Film up for review is "Creed" Starring Sylvester Stallone,. Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson.
Plot
"The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer
and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former
rival Apollo".
My Thoughts
The "Rocky" franchise is in my opinion one of the "Legendary" movie franchises, and while a few installments of the films have been in my opinion subpar (Rocky III and Rocky V come to mind) but overall the films in the franchise have been in range from solid to very good. When I first heard about this film I was somewhat interested but not ecstatic to see the film, I was a fan of Apollo Creed in the films but I did find his character very arrogant and at times Very unlikable, so a film about his illegitimate son had me a little Leery as I hoped he would not be a carbon copy of his father. After seeing this film I am going to say something I have not said much this year this was a "Great Film". The acting was very good Sylvester Stallone was excellent in his role as the venerable Rocky Balboa now in his late years and trying to push on with his life, even though all of his friends, family have passed on. Michael B. Jordan was also very good in his role as Adonis Creed, the forgotten son Apollo Creed never knew he had, he was really believable as a boxer in this film he played the role very well, what I really liked about his character was the evolution from the start of the film to the end he changed and began to embrace his father's legacy unlike in the beginning when he wanted nothing to so with him and even saw the name "Creed" as a hindrance in his life, as the film went on his character realized never forget where you came from. what was really nice to see in the film was the connection between Rocky and Adonis to see the relationship with them grow from two strangers just meeting to Trainer and Boxer to eventually becoming family it was such a journey to see unfold on the screen and beautiful to see. The boxing scenes in this film were filmed really well, I really liked the camera angle they used for the boxing matches it really puts the viewer close to the action and it felt "real". The film was not perfect there were a few minor problems I had with the film overall, first the Romance between Adonis (Jordan) and Bianca (Tessa Thompson) felt somewhat forced to me, and this is a problem that I have with a lot of films, it seems to me, that Producers and Screen Writers like to put in a relationship in films that do not really need it just to have one in the film. This movie for me would have been fine with no romance between the two characters, but as I mentioned earlier it is only a minor gripe nothing huge, another minor problem I had with the film was its running time the film was 2 hours and 13 minutes, I felt after looking back on the film that it could have been around 1 hour and 45 minutes and the same result would have been met. Lastly the soundtrack was a little to "Meek Milly" (pardon the pun) the soundtrack was Hip-Hop Heavy which is fine but I felt music by "Meek Mill" was overused otherwise I had no problems with the soundtrack. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 92% saying "Creed brings the Rocky franchise off the mat for a surprisingly
effective seventh round that extends the boxer's saga in interesting new
directions while staying true to its classic predecessors' roots". I agree with this the film really revitalized the franchise overall and the ending leaves plenty of chances for sequels, and if they are anything like this film I really look forward to them.
Rating
Great Film Highly Recommend it !! 8.5/10!!!
