The Month of June brings only two movies, the first being "Prometheus" Starring Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Micheal Fassbender the film opened on the 8th.
Plot
"A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth,
leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There,
they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human
race".
My Thoughts
The moment I saw the trailer for this film, I instantly knew that I was going to see this film regardless of hat I had heard from others or reviews I had seen around the internet. What initially caught my eye about this was the idea, I am sure most people at sometime when bored or just daydreaming must have thought about evolution and how we have evolved to what we are today, Now this film is fantasy especially in the way that this film presents its case on how we came to be what awe are today, But it has its own theory for evolution regardless, and that is what drew me in I personally have not seen many films that explore evolution especially in this manner before. The casting for me was an interesting one as the only two cast members that off the top of my head that I had heard of where Charlize Theron and Idris Elba, The rest of the cast for for the most part foreign to me, But unlike most I take that as a good thing I always like to see new talent and see how they handle big budget movie films such as this one. Sine I just mentioned the casting choices let me say that the cast did an excellent job, Everyone played their roles very well and I could not see a bad performance from a major to minor character whatsoever, I want to give special credit to Noomi Rapace, I had never heard of her until this film but after viewing it I wish I had she did an excellent job in the main character role and I will keep an eye out for her in her future roles I also want to point out that Micheal Fassbender who the only other role I knew he did was Magneto in "X-Men First Class" did a very good job playing an android surrounded by those with souls and hearts who paraded the very fact every chance they got, This is not an easy role to have and he played it masterfully., Charlize Theron and Idris Elba both did very well in this film and had good chemistry (you will understand what I mean by this once you see the film). The story, pace and setting of this film fit perfectly, people who are fans of Ridley Scott's "Alien" franchise can appreciate the subtle similarities between this film and those films (I will say that Prometheus in ways is a prequel to the first Alien Film) the special effects was top notch and the alien plant was very detailed (I also want to mention that the opening scene CGI was gorgeous and some of the best I have seen). The special effects detail on the alien life was also top notch and some of the best I have ever seen and I applaud the visual effects studio for the marvelous job they did. There where a lot of people that I talked to before I saw the film and they told e that the film felt a little too much like the "Alien" films for there liking, for me the film was different enough butt at the same time still felt similar (the ending of the film will tie in perfectly with the alien films). There was not much that I found wrong with the other than some small plot holes (which I will not point out so no spoilers are given) but they where not huge, But for me did take little away from an otherwise great story.Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 73% saying "Ridley Scott's ambitious quasi-prequel to Alien may not answer all of
its big questions, but it's redeemed by its haunting visual grandeur and
compelling performances -- particularly Michael Fassbender as a
fastidious android".
Rating
This for me was a great film and one of the best I have seen this year, I do not usually say this after seeing a film But I am hoping for a sequel right away and from what I have been reading it is well on its way and already being talked about. 8.6/10!!!!!
The second and last movie for the month of June is "Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter" starring Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Plot
"Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers
vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his
mission to eliminate them."
My Thoughts
This movie was for me one of those films that "Don't expect much" and Honestly I didn't get much, The idea behind the film was a new and somewhat refreshing and new, having one of the most important and historically remembered presidents in history and having him in a the role of vampire hunter did catch my eye. Let me star with the acting in this film the cast is mostly unknown and the only actor that I recognized was Mary Elizabeth Winstead (played the role of Mary Todd Lincoln) other than that all the actors in this film I did not recognize, Overall the cast wasn't horrible and did a decent job, but for me none of them stood out and where rather unforgettable. The special effects in this film for me where not very good the vampires looked rather fake than most vampire films I have seen and the way that the vampires where portrayed didn't sit well with me either especially against the backdrop of the civil war, that was one aspect of the film I did not like very much the timeline of the film just for me did not set up well with having vampires and vampire hunters coupled that with bad acting and sub par CG just made for a bad mix in my eyes, The film was not all bad the cinematography was top notch the scope of the film and lighting and camera angles where of top standard for me and should be applauded for making the movie at least not all bad and watchable, I also want to point out that the fighting scenes in this film where pretty good and visually where put together in a good way.Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 35% saying "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has visual style to spare, but its
overly serious tone doesn't jibe with its decidedly silly central
premise, leaving filmgoers with an unfulfilling blend of clashing
ingredients".
Rating
Did not expect much and did not get much 6.5/10!!!!
