My Thoughts
This film came onto my radar late in the game, I read the synopsis of the book and once I saw who the cast was, I was excited to see how this movie was in comparison to the book. this is where my enthusiasm ends, this film was a massive letdown. With a cast of this magnitude a decent movie would be expected, but that wasn't the case in the least,. it honestly felt like everyone in this movie phoned it in (with special exception to Karen Gillan in her role as Annie) other than that, the rest of the cast was pretty bad. I don't know if this was down to the script or the director or other factors, but for the most part it has to be something to do with the film itself, as many of the actors in this film have more than once shown to be very good actors in the past. Emma Watson in the lead actress role as Mae, was overall boring and did not find her likeable (among other things her accent slipped out more than a few times) it didn't feel like to me that she really cared about his role and her performance showed as much. Tom Hanks didn't have a huge amount of Screen time but when he was he had a very Steve Jobs feel to him and I honestly felt like I was watching Tom Hanks play Steve jobs and that is not what i expected to see when I went to watch this film, another performance to me that didn't feel like the actor really cared for this role. John Boyega's character (Ty\Kalden) in the book is supposed to have a pretty entrenched relationship with Emma Watson's Character, the film basically glossed over all of this and it was a huge disappointment and when the film ended and I saw that the film chose to differ this much with the book, I knew then and there t his film was one of the worse I have seen this year. The only quality of this film I lied was how it showed that over dependence on technology and being transparent and wanting to know everything through social media can be a bad thing for society overall. Other than that I didn't like the film at all, the ending was terrible in my opinion and it made me dislike Emma Watson's character even more than i did throughout the run time.Rotten Tomatoes gave this film an 18% saying "The Circle assembles an impressive cast, but this digitally driven thriller spins aimlessly in its half-hearted exploration of timely themes". I agree this film was terrible and the worst I have seen this year so far, how the writers could overlook such a big plot point as the relationship between Watson's and Boyega's characters is beyond me.
Rating
Do not recommend, Unenthusiastic Performances form most of the cast, Major Plot point from the book skipped by the writers, Bad Ending, No Likeable characters, Skip it!! 6.0\10!!!
