My Rating

I will start by saying my expectations for this film were pretty low. I went in expecting nothing and I can say I was surprised. Is this film one of the better marvel property films I have seen, not eve n close. But I will say the film was more enjoyable then I thought it would be. The cast was a relatively unknown one except for Jared Leto in the lad role,m I thought Jared Leto did a solid job of bringing the character to the big screen, Morbius is a smaller scale character in comparison to many in the marvel ream but I liked Leto's [performance for the most part. The rest of the cast was passable but nothing special and no standout performances. The plot for the film again wasn't anything special, it was pretty bland and very predictable if i am honest and one thing that really stuck with me was the Special effects they were just strange, I didn't like how they were executed at all, they did look a bit dated for a movie coming out in 2022, the film had a decent budget so that was shocking to see. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 16% saying "Cursed with uninspired effects, rote performances, and a borderline nonsensical story, this dreary mess is a vein attempt to make Morbius happen.". All this was true. I agree with all of this but as I mentioned before I had very low expectations for this film and going in with that mindset lead me to being entertained by this film for the most part. Don't expect too much from this film and take it for what it is and it wont be a terrible movie experience.

 Rating

Better than i expected, not great by any means but go in with low expectations and it can be worth seeing. 6.0/10!!

February 2022!!

The Month of February brings with it one film to review which is Moonfall.

Plot-"In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler is convinced she has the key to saving us all - but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is".

 Runtime-130 Minutes

Starring- Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley

 Post Credit-No

 My Thoughts

I am a big fan of natural disaster movies, in fact its one of my favorite genres so when I saw the trailer for this movie I knew I had to see it. Now having seen the movie my feelings are mixed. On one hand the film does a great job in the scale of the destruction and there are many big set pieces that you wondered if the main cast will make it out of those particular situations which was great. The acting was solid as well considering the material they are given, the standout for me was John Bradley as KC, he is a central part to the movie and his performance stood out above the rest for me, But as I mentioned overall the cast all did a good job given what they had to work with. The plot in this movie isn't much to write home about its a natural disaster movie so going in you know what to expect. I will say the movie loses me in the 3rd act I wont give it away but its gets a bit ridiculous and even for a natural disaster movie the plot goes way into the far fetched realm and I wasn't a fan but others may like where it goes. The special effects for me were hit or miss, some looked really good and top quality (the film had a budget of 145 million so that's expected) but some of the special effects looked like they belonged in a syfy channel  film which is pretty sad when you think about the budget. I wont spend too much going into this film but it was more misses than hits for me. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 40% saying "Whether Moonfall is so bad it's good or simply bad will depend on your tolerance for B-movie cheese -- but either way, this is an Emmerich disaster thriller through and through.". It does its job in that it is a big scale natiral disaster film and it definitely feels like that but the 3rd act ruined the movie for me it was a bit too nonsensical and was very hard to beleive.

Rating

Big budget, Big set pieces but the 3rd act lost me. 6.0/10!!

January 2022!

Happy New year. The month of January brings two films to review, the first being the 355.

Plot-"When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, a wild card CIA agent joins forces with three international agents on a lethal mission to retrieve it, while staying a step ahead of a mysterious woman who's tracking their every move".

Runtime-124 Minutes

 Post Credit Scene-No

My Thoughts

When I saws w the trailer for this movie, I thought it would be an entertaining action film with a plot that has been seen dozens of times in the past but entertaining nonetheless. I will say this film kept me entertained for the most part, the plot was ruin of the mill and didn't hold much depth to it, but I didn't expect it to going into the film, nothing about the plot captured me and some things that happened as the movie played out I could see coming from a mile away but overall it kept me entertained which was  all i was expecting. The cast of this film is what really made me want to check it out, a lot of big names are starring in this film and when I saw that Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong'o were starring int his, I expected a strong showing in the acting department,. and I was not let down all of the main cast give good performances given the material they have to work with, there are some cheesy lines thrown in and not every ,line is delivered with Oscar winning authority but the cast was the main reason I watched this movie and overall they did not disappoint. I really Liked Diane Kruger's performance in this film and for me was probable the best of the main cast which is saying a lot given the acting talent on hand. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 26% saying "It has a stellar cast and it's conceptually progressive, but The 355 squanders it all on a forgettable story, unremarkably told". I agree the cast was great and like I mentioned before I didn't expect the plot to be anything to write home about so I took the film for what it was worth and taking it at face value, I enjoyed it.

Rating

Great Cast, lackluster story but entertaining worth seeing if you want some mindless action movie fun 6.5/10!!.

The second and last film to review for the month of January is one I have been looking forward to which is Scream.

Plot-"Twenty-five years after the original series of murders in Woodsboro, a new killer emerges, and Sidney Prescott must return to uncover the truth".

 Runtime-120 Minutes

Starring-Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and  David Arquette

 Post Credit Scene-No

My Thoughts

I am a big fan of the scream series and ave been eagerly anticipating this next installment in the franchise. One thing I have always loved about the scream series is it has never taken itself too seriously and often has a satirical view of many classic horror tropes and I was happy to see that hadn't changed with this new installment. As with every new scream film since the first we are introduced to a new cast of characters. Overall the new cast I felt did a solid acting job and the new Lead in the film Sam (played by Melissa Barrera) had a good performance as well. Its always nice to have Sidney, Dewey and Gale as the link to the original film and they all added overall to the atmosphere for the film. The plot of this film wasn't too much different that the films of the past in the series, someone dons the ghostface outfit and the body count rises. I will say for me compared to some of  the other films in the series, the deaths in this film felt a bit more gory which i enjoyed, the more blood the better in my opinion. One thing i didn't like in this film was once the identity of the killer was known I felt the film could have did a better job of misdirecting the audience I had a good idea who it would be and when I was proven right I felt like I saw it coming. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 75% saying "The fifth Scream finds the franchise working harder than ever to maintain its meta edge -- and succeeding surprisingly often". I agree that the film a did a good job overall and the social commentary aspects (that I enjoyed about Scream 4) are definitely there and appreciated. Overall I ewnjoyted this film and while it wasnt perfect it was awelcome addition to the sereis and I am sure Wes Craven would be happy with twhat was put on the screen.

Rating

Welcome addition to the series, was fun and enjoyable and I recommend for any fan of Scream or slasher films in general to watch 7.5/10!!

February 2020!!

The Month of February Brings with it 5 films to review the first being one I have been looking forward to "Sonic The Hedgehog".

 Runtime:99 Minutes

Post Credit:1 pre credit and 1 post credit

Plot-"A cop in the rural town of Green Hills will help Sonic escape from the government who is looking to capture him".

Starring-Jim CarreyAdam Pally and James Marsden

My Thoughts

have seen some really bad movies recently and i was hopeful that this film would at least be decent. And I am happy to say this was the case. the nostalgia was thick in this film and I loved it, anyone who has played the games over the years since the 90's will see plenty of little Easter eggs dotted throughout the film. The acting was decent nothing spectacular (though it was nice to see Jim Carrey in a new role and his comic relief was well appreciated) the rest of the performances were good enough. The plot of the film made sense overall and the pacing was solid and kept me engaged through the run time which is always a plus.  Honestly it was just fun to see Sonic finally come to the big screen and I look forward to a sequel (fingers crossed) the really only down point for me was some of the jokes felt forced to me but other than that I wasn't disappointed. Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a 63% saying "Fittingly fleet and frequently fun, Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game-inspired adventure the whole family can enjoy -- and a fine excuse for Jim Carrey to tap into the manic energy that launched his career". Overall this film was fun and entertaining and that's all i really wanted, any fans of the series or wanting to take the kids out over the weekend for a fun movie should see this.

Rating

Fun, Entertaining and was what I wanted 7.5/10!!!

The second film to review for the month of February is "Fantasy Island"

 Runtime:109 Minutes

Post Credit:None

Plot-"A horror adaptation of the popular '70s TV show about a magical island resort".

Starring-Portia DoubledayMaggie Q and Lucy Hale

My Thoughts

The drudge to the start of 2020 continues with "Fantasy Island" I was hoping this film would at least be somewhat entertaining, that as not the case at all. The film starts with us being introduced to the main cast who are all forgettable, the viewer is given some backstory on each but there is no real reason to make a connection with any of them or root for any throughout the film. from the start this film had the cheesy PG-13  horror film vibe I am all too familiar with, I should know better by this point but I still go in hopefully that one day a PG-13 horror film will be decent. The acting was typical for this type of movie (no terrible performances) the plot was somewhat interesting in theory more than how it actually played out during the run time, it was mostly boring and nothing really excited happened, the only somewhat shocking thing was the twist ending, but other than that this film was so far the worst I have seen this year (which is saying a lot)  this movie is forgettable on so many levels Rotten Tomatoes  gave this film a 10% saying "Fantasy Island tries to show audiences the dark side of wish fulfillment, but mainly serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of exhuming long-dead franchises". I agree this film should have never been made.

Rating

Worst Movie I have seen so far 3.0/10!!!

The third film to review is "The Lodge".

Runtime:108 Minutes

Post Credit:None

Plot-"A soon-to-be stepmom is snowed in with her fiancé's two children at a remote holiday village. Just as relations begin to thaw between the trio, some strange and frightening events take place".

Starring-Richard Armitage , Alicia Silverstone and Riley Keough

My Thoughts

This film came onto my radar late into the game but I am glad i gave it a chance and decided to see it.  the film from the get go has a very tense and claustrophobic feel to it which sets the tone really well. the acting was very good in this film which special mention to Riley Keough who did a fantastic job transitioning from eager fiance to deranged religious fanatic by the end, it was a very good performance, the rest of the cast did a good job as well. the plot of the film kept me engaged throughout and was tense and always had a nice jump scare to keep the audience interested when the film felt like it was becoming predictable in a sense. I will say I wasn't a huge fan of the ending and it did take away from the entire movie for me, but that is always a subjective topic otherwise I had no complaints with how the film played out. Rotten Tomatoes  gave the film a 72% saying "Led by an impressive Riley Keough performance, The Lodge should prove a suitably unsettling destination for fans of darkly atmospheric horror". I agree that the film for some maybe hard to sit through there is a darkness about it which for me was perfect but its nto for everyone but for those that can sit through this film, they will be treated to a very good movie.

Rating

Very good film, other than a so so ending I highly recommend 8.0/10!!

The fourth film to review for the month is "Brahms:The Boy II".

Runtime:86 Minutes

Post Credit:None

Plot-"After a family moves into the Heelshire Mansion, their young son soon makes friends with a life-like doll called Brahms".

Starring-Katie HolmesRalph Ineson and Owain Yeoman

My Thoughts

I was not a fan of the original film at all and this film was even worse. I will spend no time on this film do not watch under ANY circumstances, it literally did not need to be made it was as sequel to a film that no one wanted. the plot was terrible. just skip it please. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 10% saying "More likely to induce boredom than quicken the pulse, Brahms: The Boy II is chiefly scary for the way it undermines the effectiveness of its above-average predecessor". I agree wholeheartedly the film was boring and i will leave it at that, this film is not worth discussing it was terrible and I do not recommend for anyone.

Rating

Terrible worst movie I have seen this year (will be happy when february is over been saying that too much this month) 3.0/10!!

The last film to review for the month is "The Invisible Man".

Runtime:124 Minutes

Post Credit:None

Plot-"When Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see".

Starring-Elisabeth MossAldis Hodge and Oliver Jackson-Cohen

My Thoughts

I went into this film with not many expectations and that may have been the best way to approach this. this film was probably the best I saw for February (which isn't saying much but still). Starting with the acting there was not a bad performance anywhere in the film and Elisabeth Moss  did an amazing job as the lead in this film, it was one of the better performances I have seen in recent memory and hope she gets some recognition in some way. The plot in this film wasn't exactly anything we haven't seen before (battered spouse seeks to get away from the abuser) the wrinkle in this film was the invisible aspect and it really made this film, throughout the over 2 hour run time the film makers did a marvelous job convincing the viewer that Cecilia was going crazy when in reality she was being tormented we just don't know by whom. The film had a very tense and dark feel to it which was right up my alley and I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere the film had from start to finish. There was not much about this film I did not like, the ending for me was a bit of letdown but other than that i cant find too much wrong with this film. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 90% saying "Smart, well-acted, and above all scary, The Invisible Man proves that sometimes, the classic source material for a fresh reboot can be hiding in plain sight". I agree with it all except the film, being scary but that comes down to personal opinion and I see way too many horror films to be scared anymore, but there are some well timed ump scares that could get some, this was a really good film which exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend for fans of thrillers.

Rating

Veyr good film, well acted, tense and dark. highly recommend 8.7/10!!!
